Entrepreneur/Business Owner Practical Programme

Purpose

This 18 month programme has been designed for Business Owner/Operators who wish to unlock the potential in their business and build the skills, knowledge and self-awareness they need to become serial entrepreneurs. By the end of the programme participants will be able to make any small/medium sized business a success by leveraging sales and marketing, finance, people and delivery.

Entry requirements

A pre-requirement of the course is that the participants must be Directors or a group of Directors who collectively have a majority shareholding in an existing business. This is because the programme requires learning and development with a currently operating business. The additional benefit is that in many cases the improvements in the performance of the business will cover the fees and costs involved in completing the course.

Programme Outcomes

  • Develop the ability to break down any business into smaller manageable chunks

  • Draw upon a significant body of proven business techniques and skills to promote the achievement of performance targets and business goals

  • Realign, develop and/or recruit the team needed to take the business forward, leading to better team harmony, and more effective achievement of business goals (including better customer service and hence satisfaction)

  • Establish a profit model that allows the shareholders to draw a profit aligned with the business worth and in excess of remuneration for hours worked in the business

  • Bring the hours worked in the business to a manageable level, allowing focus on development outside the business (other investments, family, leisure)

Structure

The programme is initiated at the business premises. The programme is structured slightly differently depending on the individual circumstances of the participant(s) and their business. The time requirement for this initial structuring is a half day, following which the programme is run on a weekly and quarterly schedule. This initial session includes 3 simple psychometric assessments of the participants, purely as an aid for structuring the programme to aid effective learning.

Typically this will involves a minimum of 5 hours a week, composed of:

  • An hours consultation/teaching/coaching session each week during working hours typically on a Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday, regular weekly slots are encouraged.

  • Four hours self study, which will include working on the business as part of the programme, for example improving sales, marketing, team, finance, or operations. And one or two hours reading/listening to educational material weekly.

  • The programme includes 5 workshops: business fundamentals, sales, customer satisfaction, marketing and team you are encouraged to invite relevant team members to these workshops.

After each three months, there is an assessment and planning session where the programme goals and outcomes for the following three months are formulated.
